Academic Coaching

Learning problems identified in childhood often continue to surface throughout life.  During childhood school is the arena for success, where efforts to identify and remediate learning problems typically abound. For adults, post-high school education and the work place become the testing grounds.

If you’re an adult facing job or school challenges related to learning disabilities, attention issues, or and/or learning style differences, The Lab School’s Academic Coaching program can help. This program is highly individualized and is conducted in one-to-one settings. Our instructors are experienced educators in the field of learning disabilities and have a proven track record of working successfully with adults.

Academic Coaching sessions address the needs that you may face during transitions, such as adjusting to college, meeting the increasing demands of a new job, or demonstrating the skills necessary for promotion or academic success. Specific areas of instruction include writing, reading comprehension, math, and executive functioning (organization, problem-solving, task analysis).

Our program can also help if you are seeking professional licensing. A learning disability, attention problem, or learning style difference can complicate preparing, studying and ultimately passing a licensing exam.  We will formulate an individualized study plan that addresses areas of weakness and improves the overall quality of your study sessions.

Academic Coaching is a dynamic process:  you and your instructor work together to identify problems and devise strategies to encourage success.  While Academic Coaching focuses on the "whole person" and is fundamentally supportive, individuals whose primary difficulty is related to emotional or behavioral problems may not be well-suited for this program.
