College and Career Advising
College and career preparation at The Baltimore Lab School is an ongoing process throughout a student’s four years of upper school. The College Counselor will work with the students in classes at different times to prepare them for the college application process and will walk them through the entire process. This includes the choice of appropriate classes, essay writing, personal statements, filling out applications, developing interviewing skills and strengthening of self-advocacy skills. Each parent and student is given an accounting of the student’s progress in this endeavor. The students will maintain their own file and make use of the internet, to save and research college and career information.
Our College Counselor works closely with each family in the upper school community to find post-secondary options for students that are suitable to their needs, interests and abilities. With the support and co-operation of the school administration and faculty, the College Counselor monitors students’ preparation for the PSAT and SAT standardized tests. Baltimore Lab also serves as a test center for administration of the PSAT, SAT, and ACT for those students with approved accommodations from the College Board. Baltimore Lab School also provides SAT preparation classes for the juniors and seniors.
