Financial Aid
APPLYING FOR FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE 2010-2011
• In order for The Lab School of Washington to allocate our limited resources wisely and fairly, The Lab School will use Independent School Management’s Financial Aid for School Tuition (F.A.S.T) program. ISM’s FAST does not decide whether financial assistance will be given or how much to give; rather FAST provides a need-based financial aid analysis service. All information from FAST is kept confidential. Applications are reviewed by the Financial Aid Committee on each campus and the
committee recommends to the Director the allocation of the financial aid resources for the coming school year. Upon approval by the Director, financial aid offers are sent to families.
• Unfortunately, financial assistance is not available at the present time for families new to The Lab School.
• While no financial aid procedure can be entirely equitable – there are simply too many individual factors and extenuating circumstances – the process that has been established will serve Lab School families well.
• The FAST application is available only electronically and must be completed online. Financial aid procedures, information, and the link to the FAST application are located on The Lab School of Washington’s website (www.labschool.org). The application for DC is located just below “Summer Program” under the “School” section of the Washington page.
• Parents are asked to access the FAST Program website specifically for The Lab School of Washington applicants (click on FAST icon below). Once there, click the Get Started button at the bottom of the first page. All your financial information should be entered directly through the secure server. Space is also provided to fill out additional information that may be pertinent to your application. In addition, a copy of your most recent tax return should be mailed directly to FAST.
• The deadline for applications is March 31, 2010. There is a $34 fee to process this application.
• While the availability of school resources, the number of qualified applicants, and overall budgetary constraints influence financial assistance decisions, The Lab School of Washington is committed to making grants available to as many eligible applicants as possible. In an effort to make this process fair to all, The Lab School of Washington considers the following when making award decisions:
with the family.
• Both parents are expected to contribute to tuition. If a parent
chooses not to work, The Lab School imputes an annual income for a
non-working parent.
• In the case of divorce or separation, The Lab School requires both
parents to file an application for financial assistance. The Lab School
of Washington is not bound by any divorce agreement specifying a
parent’s responsibility for educational expenses.
