Industrialists Club
The Industrialists Club covers American history from the colonial era to the early 1900’s. The students study “captains of industry “ -- less flatteringly known as “robber barons” -- such as Rockefeller, DuPont, Ford, Vanderbilt, Carnegie, Astor, and Mme. C.J. Walker.
Through the lens of these figures’ experiences and actions, students will encounter the great themes of American history such as immigration, industrialization, transcontinental expansion, enfranchisement and disenfranchisement, labor issues, and the evolution of Constitutional rights. During each day’s “board meeting” students manage their personal funds, keep records of transactions, and observe parliamentary procedure. They will experience American history not through textbooks but through individualized experiential projects, field trips, and creative activities.
