So Much to Learn, Ponder, Build, Do: High School J Term 2019
Build, test, and race underwater remotely-operated vehicles. Use a software music sequencer and digital audio workstation to arrange, perform, and record a track. Learn more deeply about the issues of social justice as represented through television and film by watching and discussing works Like Milk, Dear White People, and Blackish. Learn about food insecurity and food deserts; delve into the issues of war, racism, and social injustice as portrayed through musical theatre; learn about paper making, printing, and bookbinding and create original pieces; express yourself by making street art in DC; and travel to DC sites and museums tolearn more about the Holocaust; our nation’s heroes at Arlington Cemetery; the history of medical techniques and technology, with an emphasis upon military medicine; and “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” at DC’s historic sites and memorials.
For two days in January, High School students are given the opportunity to immerse themselves in one or two courses of interest like those above, courses designed to enhance the school curriculum but also to soar beyond it.
