  • Registration Details

    Fall Term for After School at Lab runs Monday, September 10, 2018 – Friday, November 30, 2018.
     
    Registration opens Monday, August 27, and the deadline to register is Friday, September 7. Parents will have until Friday, September 21 to make changes to their child’s After School schedule. After this drop-add period, no refunds will be given. Minimum/maximum numbers apply.
     
    Drop-ins to Club Dragon and Focus Factor throughout the Fall are $40 per day; paying for the term upfront will benefit you and give your child more exciting class options!
  • Discounts

    3 days/week – receive a 5% discount
    4 days/week – receive a 10% discount
    5 days/week – receive a 15% discount
  • *Homework Policy

    Club Dragon and Focus Factor will allow students to finish homework before engaging in other activities.  
    *All classes marked with an asterisk will break at 5pm to give students 30 minutes of homework time.  
  • Snacks

    Students will gather in the Commons at 3:30pm and receive a snack before breaking off into groups. Examples of snacks include goldfish, applesauce, fruit snacks, and chips.  In case of special dietary restrictions, contact Aymi Ayala or Kelly Mills.
  • Late Pickup Policy

    Pickup is at 5:30pm. After that, there is a grace period of 15 minutes until 5:45 pm. Parents/Caregivers who pick up students late will be charged $25 for every 15-minute interval. Notice of a delay is greatly appreciated; please call (202) 641-5847 to inform After School staff.

MONDAY {10 DAYS}

  • Club Dragon

    (Elementary)
    Students will spend the first part of the afternoon reading for 20 minutes. From there, students will tackle their assignments from their anchor binders. Once homework is completed, students may play board games, work on puzzles or art projects, read, have free play on iPads, or go out on the playground, weather permitting.

  • New! Mindfulness, Art and Yoga*

    (Elementary, Intermediate)
    Students will explore art as a contemplative practice, and see how creativity and mindfulness can come together to support emotions, promote relaxation, and enhance self-understanding. This club will also incorporate innovative multisensory movements to help students get in tuned with their bodies, develop flexibility and core muscles, and hone in on individual strengths. Students will also learn mindful breathing techniques that can be used in and out of the classroom. Get ready to be relaxed and energized for the back end of your day! Students will take home their yoga mat at the end of the term. Instructor Hannah Topka

  • Focus Factor

    (Intermediate)
    Intermediate students congregate in an Intermediate classroom and are able to use Intermediate resources (computers, books, etc.) to work on reading, homework, or projects. A Lab teacher will be available for homework help. Students will spend the first part of the afternoon reading for 20 minutes. From there, students will tackle their remaining assignments. Once homework is completed, students may play board games, work on puzzles or art projects, read, have free play on iPads, or go out on the playground, weather permitting.

  • New! Beginning Spanish*

    (Elementary, Intermediate)
    Spanish: the language of nearly half a billion people worldwide. This introductory Spanish class will focus developing basic vocabulary and include an exploration of Spanish culture and music. Students will begin with oral language and as they become more comfortable, will begin a simple writing component. Come join us and discover the rich cultures of the Spanish speaking world.     Junior High students congregate in a Junior High classroom and are able to use JH resources (computers, books, etc.) to work on homework, projects, or papers. A Lab teacher will be available for homework help. Students are expected to spend their time in the classroom working quietly. If/when they finish working, they may read or play games on the computer, or go out on the playground, weather permitting.

Grab your torch and take hold of your magic sword and welcome to the wonderful world of D & D! This cooperative storytelling, role playing game has all members at the table interact and create their own character and navigating a fantasy world created by the Dungeon Master.     (Elementary and Intermediate)
    Students will take a journey across the art worlds. Spanning from Laos to Haiti you will learn and create art forms that will help you better understand how art shapes culture and how it shapes us as humans. Each week we will stamp our “passports”, take time to research each country with short videos and listening to authentic music. Each student will create art pieces that are representative of the country being studied. This club will explore the beauty of other cultures. Come join us for our “travels” around the world.   • Chess Club

    (Elementary, Intermediate, Junior High)
    Master Chess Player David Bennett will once again join us to strategize and play this classic game. Playing chess is a fun way to improve analytical thinking skills, and to learn about foresight, planning, and decision-making. Students will have the chance to play against students of different ages, and to learn about game etiquette and communication. David is adept at teaching students of varying skill-sets and levels of experience at the same time; come join us as a “rook” or a “king” and let’s play!
