High School

“Having ADHD is awesome, actually. Everyone else is looking at the world through a tiny straw, but people like me who have ADHD see the whole picture.”
— Lab School Student

From our annual “reception line welcome” on the first day of school to the personal remarks about each senior at graduation, our community is closely connected.
We are a community of …

1. Learners
The High School offers engaging courses that build the academic skills needed for college and career success, while simultaneously promoting organizational, study, and test-taking skills.

2. Artists
The arts — central to our students’ experience at Lab — encourage stu¬dents to tap into their creativity and stretch their imaginations. Students gain confidence and discover new ways to express themselves, as they learn to think like artists and view the world in alternative ways.

3. Explorers
High school is a time to deepen understanding of who you are as a learner, pursue your interests, and design your future. At the Lab School High School, students discover more about themselves, provide service to their community, and become global citizens.

We offer a variety of clubs and activities that allow students to gather around a shared interest.

Our High School students also serve their community, completing a min¬imum of 100 hours of community service prior to graduation. Hunger-relief programs, clothing drives, and beautification projects are just some of the ways students become involved.

4. Global Citizens
We develop life-long learners who engage with the world around them.
In recent years, students have participated in a civil rights tour of Alabama, a literary and historical tour of Boston, and a conservation science trip to Hawaii. International destinations — exploring history, culture, language, science, and economy — have in¬cluded France, the Galapagos, South Africa, Italy, Cambodia, Vietnam, Spain, and Morocco.

5. Athletes
The High School is a member of the Metro Independent School Athletic League and the Independent Small Schools Athletic Conference. Our teams are competitive, yet open to everyone. Athletes learn teamwork, sportsmanship, and self-discipline.
And …

In High School, students do a full year junior year internship and a senior project. They also receive one-on-one guidance from our College Advisor who gets to know every High School student, develops an understanding of the student’s interests and goals, and works with the student and family on pre-college testing and determining the best post-secondary fit.

In every division, The Lab School offers psychological services, tutoring, and speech-language therapy, and evaluation to ensure each student has the best chances of success.
