Structured literacy, often using Orton Gillingham approach: explicit, systematic teaching of foundational components of literacy (PA, decoding, encoding) as well as reading comprehension. Taught synchronously by a trained, experienced certified teacher. Meets live online daily for 60 minutes.

Hands-on, concept-focused, and evidence-based, aligned with standards-based curricula; focus on math language development and use of CRA method (Concrete-Abstract-Representational). Taught synchronously by a trained, experienced certified teacher. Meets live online daily for 60 minutes.

Systematic and explicit instruction; teaching strategies for planning, revising, and editing written work. Focus on note taking skills, sentence expansion, and development of single paragraph essays moving into multi-paragraph written work. Taught synchronously by a trained, experienced certified teacher. Meets live online daily for 60 minutes.

Lower School Academic Club

Lab School’s ground breaking Social Studies class infused with Science, Technology, Engineering, and Art focus – Students play historic roles and are immersed in a time period. Focus on the development of design thinking and language skills. Taught synchronously by a trained, experienced certified teacher. Meets live online four times a week for 45 minutes.

Middle School Reading

Hands-on, explicit, concept focused, and evidence-based, aligned with standards-based curricula. Focus on connection of math to daily life problem solving and development of abstract mathematical thinking. Taught synchronously by a trained, experienced certified teacher. Middle School Writing

Competency-Based instruction focused on the ability to analyze events, people, and perspectives and the ability to apply geographical reasoning by evaluating human impacts on environmental systems; build civic knowledge and make a positive impact in communities. Middle School Visual Art

Competency-Based instruction focused on conveying meaning through artistic work, organizing, developing, and executing a project plan; demonstrating an understanding of the responsibility that comes with artistic freedom; relate artistic ideas and works to societal, cultural, and historical contexts. Taught synchronously by a trained, experienced certified teacher. Meets live online once a week for 45 minutes.

One-On-One Supplement for Reading

Designed for students whose skill set is such that one-on-one instruction is deemed necessary in order for the student to progress adequately through the reading curriculum. Must be recommended by teaching team. Taught synchronously by a trained, experienced certified teacher. Meets live online daily for 60 minutes.

One-On-One Coaching

Individually designed based on student needs. Assist students in the development of plan creation and execution, organizational skills, and executive functioning skills. Student meets live online with a trained, experienced teacher for 30-minute one-on-one sessions in whatever frequency (daily, weekly, biweekly) works best for the student’s need and schedule. Sessions are bundled in packages of ten.
Cost per package of ten: $500

Tech Needs

  • A laptop or desktop PC or Macbook possessing a minimum of 8GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage
  • Smartphones, tablets, and other mobile devices are not supported
  • Chromebooks are not supported
  • Device must be able to support multi-window screen sharing, video feed, etc.
  • Chrome is the recommended browser.
  • High-speed internet connection (Cable, DSL)
    • Satellite internet service and cellular wifi hotspots may be subject to speed and reliability issues and could result in unsatisfactory performance.
    • Recommended Internet speeds:
      • Download speed of at least 25 mbps
      • Upload speed of at least 3 mbps
      • Ping response of less than 100ms
    • Test your Internet speed using speedtest.net
  • A headset with microphone
  • Access to a printer
  • A second monitor/two screens is very helpful for many students
  • A smart camera device that allows student to move while staying on camera is helpful for some students
  • A stand-alone keyboard and mouse may be helpful for some students
  • Using a shared Internet connection will impact connectivity, such as additional household members’ use of streaming TV, gaming, and other Internet usage.
  • Wireless connections may be impacted by the distance from the router and interference from microwaves and other electronics. (Wired connections are recommended.)
  • Your Internet Service Provider’s performance may vary throughout the day based on community usage.
