What We Believe
Some individuals think differently. To that we say: thank goodness.
At The Lab School, we believe differences are to be celebrated and embraced, not covered up or erased. It’s all for one reason:
Different thinkers solve difficult problems.
We believe the world needs people who think differently. Solutions – whether they are game-changing innovations out in the world, or small but mighty shifts in one’s academic or personal life – come from thinking about a problem in a new way. This problem-solving is what we are here to foster in our students on campus and beyond.
At The Lab School of Washington, we embrace differences as advantages.
Our mission each day is to encourage and guide students in using their differences to their advantage. Whether they are working with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, ADHD, or some combination, our students come to identify not with a diagnosis, but with what they can do because of it.
Our experience educating children with learning differences guide who we are and what we do.
At Lab, we believe in:
- Learning: We make discovery joyful.
- Audacity: We empower students to take risks.
- Belonging: We are invested in each other.
We have our sights set high.
Because of these beliefs, our vision is a bold one.
By 2030, The Lab School of Washington will set the national standard for specialized education.
With thriving students, innovative faculty, an arts-integrated approach, a commitment to financial sustainability and a culture of belonging, Lab will stand out as a best-in-class institution for students with language-based learning differences.
Lab will empower our students to embrace their differences as advantages by celebrating each student’s strengths and encouraging personalized pathways for success.
Ultimately, we envision a world that embraces differences as extraordinary.
At Lab, we show the world how making the world a better place is as simple as being who we truly are.
