Middle School
In our Middle School program, students learn to apply their academic skills, embrace a higher level of independence, and engage in arts-centered, project-based learning across disciplines.
“At The Lab School, you are no longer that kid — the one who struggles to read, or who has issues with spelling. In many ways, you’re like everyone else. You can succeed at Lab. Believing in yourself — that you have the ability to go beyond what others expect of you — is the most important factor of success. Lab helped me do this, and it has changed my life.”
— Lab School Student
Geared towards students in grades 5-8, our Middle School program focuses on developing skills, knowledge, independence, and self-advocacy – all critical pieces of embracing one’s learning difference.
In the Middle School, students dive deeper into the arts-centered, hands-on, project-based learning they experienced in the Lower School. Our faculty encourage and support students to tackle increasingly rigorous content.
As with the Lower School, classes in the Middle School program are differentiated to support individual student needs, and opportunities for intensive remediation continue as needed.
Above all, increased choice is a crucial part of the Middle School experience. We task students with selecting arts and STEM courses, clubs, and extracurricular activities, putting them in the driver’s seat of their learning.
