Celebrating a Lab Alumnus - Sam Mason (’11)

Congratulations to Sam Mason (’11) who was recently named the next Head of Lower School at St. Patrick’s Episcopal Day School. Sam attended The Lab School from early in his elementary career through 8th grade and fondly recalls his time here, sharing “I truly feel forever indebted to Lab for all it has done for me. I carry with me so many wonderful memories, especially from my early years at Lab when I came in struggling in many areas, but was able to gain confidence through the support of inspiring educators. Whether it was woodworking with Dieter, English with Ms. Wise, dancing with Steve Johnson, or learning in the Renaissance Club, Lab gave me so much to be grateful for.”
A graduate of Denison University with a degree in Environmental Studies and a minor in Education, Sam has devoted his career to educating children. Most recently, he has served as St. Patrick’s Assistant Head of Lower School while also directing their sustainability initiatives. In announcing this new position, St. Patrick’s shared that Sam is “a thoughtful coach, a skilled communicator, and a leader who understands both the academic and social-emotional needs of young children. His steady guidance and deep care for students, teachers, and families alike make him exceptionally well-suited to lead our Lower School.”
Lab is so proud of Sam and excited that he will continue his leadership so close to his Lab home!
