Former Night Student Dexter Manley Donates to Financial Aid at The Lab School

This week, Dexter Manley and his foundation visited The Lab School to make a donation towards financial aid for students. The Dexter and Lydia Manley Foundation raises money to ensure all children in Washington, DC have access to literacy resources and opportunities to read.

Manley is no stranger to The Lab School. In 1989, while playing professional football in Washington DC, he revealed that he had learning differences and was functionally illiterate. He enrolled in night courses at The Lab School with tutor Sarah Hines, and was soon reading at an adult level. After presenting the donation from the foundation, he spoke to Junior High and High School students about his career and overcoming his struggles with learning differences.
