Upper School Spring Athletes Recognized at Sports Assembly

Tennis, Track, Volleyball, and Golf teams all recognized for their seasons.

As the spring athletics season came to a close, the Upper School held a ceremony in the Shaun Miskell Theater to honor all of the students that participated this year. Coaches from each time introduced each member of their teams and then gave out special awards for the MVP and most improved players.

Coach Baytop had a lot of praise for this year's track team, which was the largest ever at Lab. Though other activities like theater or Eye to Eye kept some students from making it to the meets, Coach Baytop still said that it was an incredibly supportive group at practices and that the team had an amazing season. In its first year back at Lab after a long hiatus, the golf team also had a great season. Coach Stocks was approached by his students who proposed that Lab bring back its golf team, and they hit the ground running. Impressed by the teams play, many opposing coaches were stunned to learn that it was only the first year that this group was playing together for The Lab School.

Both the competitive and recreational tennis teams has continued to grow in the sport's second season back at Lab. With Coach Phillips' encouragement, some students even moved from the recreational to the competitive team to take part in matches against other schools. The all gender volleyball team built on the success of the fall team, and students continued to develop their skills on the court. Coach Reed and Coach Speights were very proud of their squad's hard work.

Coach Angelo

Coach Stocks also took a moment to celebrate Coach Angelo, who is departing as Lab's Director of Athletics at the end of this year. From only having two teams when he started at Lab, Coach Angelo was instrumental in building the Lab Athletic Program to was it is today. He has been a mentor to numerous former students that have joined the Lab Physical Education staff. Thanks for everything Coach!
