After School

The After School model offers homework time every day with flexibility and fun in the options afterwards.

Lab School’s After School program is comprised of two parts this school year:

  • After School and After School Plus

Students in both programs will spend the first 45 minutes of the After School program completing homework followed by snack time. Homework time is a highly structured time during After School where students are expected to work on homework completion, reading, and math practice. Structures are in place to support students during homework time such as a seating chart, a homework completion checklist to support executive functioning and organization, and homework help from Lab School teachers in a calm environment to support student focus.

After this, students who are part of After School will join Katy Bose, After School Director, in a free choice activity such as playing on the playground, playing board games, arts based activities, or another less structured activity.

Students who are part of After School Plus will join that day’s class (see schedule and descriptions below) which will run from 4:15PM to 5:15PM Monday through Thursday. On Fridays, there will be no After School Plus - all students will gather together to watch a movie.

A variety of materials will be used including canvas, paints, and drawing materials including pencils, charcoal, oil pastels, markers, and chalk for students to experiment with and express themselves through the creative process. This class will be supported by a skilled Upper School art student.

Tuesdays: Dance Class taught by Jessica Bruce

Participants should wear clothing that allows them to move freely in dance class.

Wednesdays: Lab’s Crochet Crowd taught by Nurse Michele Kuhn

We'll explore ideas for what type of organization they'd like to support such as blankets for the animal shelter, lap blankets for nursing home residents, or scarves to help keep unhoused folks warmer. No experience needed and materials are provided.
